Summary
The Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) in the field of Circular Advanced Materials (CAM), hereinafter IPCEI CAM, is a European initiative aimed at strengthening strategic autonomy and industrial competitiveness through the development of circular and sustainable advanced materials. It arises within the Joint European Forum for IPCEI (JEF-IPCEI), to respond to the growing gap between the demand for these materials (necessary in the fields of renewable energies and their storage, sustainable mobility, or industrial decarbonization, among others), and their limited availability in the European market.
The IPCEI CAM aims to reduce the dependency on critical raw materials and promote the reuse, repair, recycling and remanufacturing of materials, as well as the development of more sustainable alternatives with the aim of improving security of supply, reducing environmental impact and strengthening European industrial value chains.
The IPCEI CAM promotes R&D&I activities and first industrial deployment of innovative solutions, aligned with the main policies of the European Union. It is structured in three areas: design and sustainable procurement of advanced materials and products/applications where they are used; circular manufacturing and management, including end-of-life; and optimization of the use of these materials through repair, reuse and second applications, also promoting cooperation between Member States and the development of industrial capabilities and specialized talent.
